Adhan: The Meaning of Muslim Call for Prayer

You might have heard the adhan when you lived or traveled in an Islamic country. But never really knew what that was all about. Never really understood the meaning of the "call" that you used to hear five times a day coming out of loud speaker of a nearby mosque. Well, now is an opportunity for you to know…

Allahu Akhbar, Allahu Akhbar

Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest

Ashhadu anla ilaha illal laa (2 times)

I testify, there is no God but Allah

Ashadu anna Muhammadur rasulullah (2 times)

Muhammad is the messenger of Allah

Haia alas salaah (2 times)

Come to prayer

Haia alal falah (2 times)

Come for success

As salatus khairum minan naum*

Prayer is better than sleep*

Allahu Akhbar, Allahu Akhbar

Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest

La ilaha illal laa

There is no God but Allah

*Is added to the call at the early Morning Prayer call only.

When this call for prayer is heard, all the practicing Muslims either head toward the mosque to offer their prayer in congregation, or just offer it alone or in a group at home or where ever they are.
